Celebrate with us "31 DAYS IN AUGUST"! "31 DAYS IN
AUGUST" is a time for spiritual renewal and reflection. It is an
experience intent on bringing persons into a God encounter–an encounter
that reassures the faithful of God’s presence in the life of the believers
and where non-believer are encouraged to experience the reality of God.
This month, through worship, prayer, music, preaching, teaching, and
drama, common places will be transformed and broken relationship, healed.
"31 DAYS IN AUGUST" is an experience– multiplied and shared with
friends and strangers–releasing in all of us a sense of wonderment. It is
my hope that this experience will inspire and will sustain a commitment to
usher in a new world order. August will be a time for music, preaching,
discussions, teaching, fellowship and fun.

Music. Music is the rhythm of the
human spirit. No ritual has influenced the religious experience more than
has music. Saturdays are the days of song. We will explore its roots while
moving to its beat. Cynthia Goodloe Palmer will open the month with a
contemporary gospel music concert. Closing the month will be the London
Branch Trio performing in a jazz concert–the blending of blues and gospel.
The jazz mass celebrated this musical form shaped by the religious
experience of black people.
Preaching.
Churches within the Farish Street District and other churches have been
invited to share this month with us. Visiting preachers will include
Reverend Neddie Winters, Reverend Stephen Cook, Reverend Mark Williamson
and Dr. Charles Spann. These pastors will share the preached word as their
church choirs sing. This is the ritual of worship and devotion. Worship is
the duty of every believer. Through worship we experience the exalted Lord
and the transcendent God.
 Friday
Colloquium. To help us understand the complexity of the issues
confronting persons of faith, two high powered speakers have been invited,
for what we will call, the "Friday Night Colloquium." This
lecture-discussion will stimulate and enlighten. Dr.
Janice Hale, noted author and educator,
will speak on the subject: "Creating Educational Excellence for African
American Children" and Dr. Ojinga Harrison, physician and psychiatrist,
will discuss the topic of spiritual healing with implications to persons
of faith.
Teaching. Invited teachers/preachers will include:
Bishop Ronnie Crudup,
Dr. R.K. Moore, Dr. Carl Hunt, Dr. F. L. Blount, and Dr. Jesse Horton. They will devote themselves to
the teaching of the faith. The senior pastor will also lead in the
exposition of Scripture. Some of the teachings that will inspire us are:
healing, prayer, and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Revival.
Evangelist Manuel Scott, Jr. will thrill us with the preaching of the
gospel. The first and only full-time National Baptist evangelist, Reverend
Scott preaches to thousands and travels millions of miles to advance the
gospel.
